5 days Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru safari is a wonderful safari experience that takes you to Kenya’s famous safari destinations that is Maasai Mara national reserve and Lake Nakuru national park. The Kenya safari begins in Maasai Mara to where the visitors can witness the big five mammals like lions, buffaloes, rhinos, elephants, buffaloes in the natural habitat alongside cheetahs, hyenas, and numerous bird species. After immersing in the Mara’s savannahs, the safari continues to Lake Nakuru National Park renowned for its stunning pink flamingos, black and white rhinos, and Rothschild’s giraffes. Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Transfer to Maasai Mara national reserve.
You will be picked from your hotel in Nairobi after or from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport upon arrival by our safari guide and transfer to Maasai Mara national reserve on a drive of 5-6 hours on the first day of the safari. Along the way you will have a stopover at the Great Rift Valley for the unique sighting of Mount Longonot and Suswa and on to the western wall and proceed with your journey and you will make another stopover in Narok town where you will interact with the locals and get a chance to buy some beautiful and unique handmade pieces, you will have another stopover in the rift valley view point where you will be able to get scenic views of the rift valley escarpments.
Arrive in the reserve in time for lunch after checking into your lodge you will be served with lunch, in the afternoon you will go for a game viewing searching along Mara River to where you will witness the large wildlife washing away their thirst, herds of elephants bathing, and spotting other animals such as lions, wildebeests, cape buffaloes, gazelles, crocodiles, leopards, African elephants, among others. In the evening you will head back to your lodge for dinner and go for campfire gathering with Maasai dance under the clear Africa’s sky and later overnight.
Day 2: Full Day in Masai Mara national reserve.
On the second day of the safari; you will have an early breakfast at your lodge ahead of your morning game drive in the open savannah plains of Masai Mara national reserve. You will go with your picnic lunch for your game drive. Masai Mara national reserve has a variety of wildlife species such as lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos and rhinos, giraffes, elephants, wildebeest, elands, zebras, topis among others.
There are also various bird species in Maasai Mara national reserve which you can see during a game viewing experience on your safari. You will have your lunch in the reserve as you watch the beautiful scenery around Masai Mara national reserve and watch wildlife species grazing in the savannah plains. After lunch, you will have another game drive in the reserve to look out for various wildlife species and enjoy seeing the different attractions and later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Morning game drive and Afternoon Maasai village tours.
On the 3th day you will wake up early in the morning and enjoy hearty breakfast. After the breakfast you will meet your safari guide and go for the full day’s safari experience. During the safari you will have the intriguing spotting of the big five mammals. You will visit the Mara River where you can witness the dramatic river crossings of the Great Migration when the period is between July to August. After the morning experience you can either be driven back to your lodge and enjoy lunch or have a picnic lunch. After lunch you will be transferred back to the reserve for the Maasai village tours.
During the Maasai village tours you will have the unique cultural experience that allows you to immerse in the traditional lifestyle of the Maasai people. Here you will explore the village, learn about Maasai customs, traditions, and history and interact with the community members, you will be demonstrated of the traditional Maasai crafts, such as bead work and speak making and among others. After the experience you will be transferred back to your lodge for dinner relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer from Maasai Mara to Lake Nakuru.
On the 4th day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and be served with a delicious breakfast, after breakfast you will checkout and begin your journey to Lake Nakuru National Park. Along the journey you will spot the various landscape that offers you wonderful views. Upon your arrival you will check in the lodge and be served with lunch. After lunch you will go for the game viewing experience along Lake Nakuru to spot the millions and millions of the pink flamingos and among other bird species like Goliath herons, pied kingfishers, African fish eagles, hamerkops and others alongside various animal species rhinos, impalas, antelopes, giraffes, and among others. After the experience you will return back to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 5: Morning game drive and Departure.
On the last day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and be served with breakfast, after breakfast you will meet your safari guide and go for morning game drive. You will sight the park’s incredible animal species like giraffes, rhinos, lions, hippos, crocodiles, antelopes, baboons and among many others and watch other bird species like eagles, storks, vultures and many others. You can as well visit the Lake’s famous flamingos and rhino sanctuary. After the experience you will go back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch you will check out from lodge and start your journey to Nairobi that takes 3 to 4 hours, once you arrive you will be dropped either at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for next flight back home or you will dropped to your hotel in Nairobi.
