This lodge is easily accessible from anywhere in the country, as it is only 2 hours and 30 minutes from Kigali, 5 hours from the Nyungwe Forest National Park, and 4 hours from Rwanda’s animal national park, Akagera. The Volcanoes National Park is home to endangered mountain gorillas and is close to other mountain gorilla habitats such as the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, and the Mgahinga National Park in Uganda.
You can link from any of the other mountain gorilla parks via the land borders of Uganda-Rwanda or DR Congo-Rwanda, which takes around 2 to 4 hours by vehicle. If you prefer to spend less time on the road, Akagera Aviation provides chartered flights to Musanze airfield, which is a 40-minute ride and a short drive from the hotel.
The mountain gorilla nest lodge is about a 5-minute drive from the Volcanoes National Park reception, where briefings for mountain gorilla trekking are held. The Mountain Gorillas Nest Lodge offers a very personal and professional staff that will happily attend to each guest, and the setting at the lodge adds to the charm of the property.
The Mountain Gorilla Nest Lodge is an attractive hotel with up to 21 spacious villa rooms that merge contemporary and Rwandan culture. The walls are composed of native stone, the majority of which are lava stones collected and modified as a result of volcanic activity in the area. The beddings have a modern touch to ensure optimal comfort throughout your overnight stay. The structures of this lodge are roofed with grass thatch.
Each room at the lodge features a private bathroom in the en suite style, with flushing toilets, hot and cold showers, and a bathtub to suit your preferences. The rooms also include balconies with a sitting/lounging space where guests may enjoy views of the park and the Virunga hills.
The bedding is modern Egyptian cotton fitted bedding that is fresh every day of your stay, and there is a private fireplace for those cold nights. Nights in and near Volcanoes National Park can be extremely cold, so bring plenty of thick clothing to augment the warmth from the fire.
The lodge includes all types of rooms, including single rooms, double rooms, twin or triple rooms, and a family room for families traveling together. The One and Only just acquired the Mountain Gorillas Nest resort, with the goal of transforming it from a midrange to a top-class facility.
On October 30, 2019, the lodge was relaunched as the One & Only Gorilla Nest Lodge, and it now provides top-tier luxury services. The resort is currently open to tourists wishing for a luxurious experience during their visit to Volcanoes National Park. This lodge is available year-round, so you may schedule a stay any day of the year.
