The One & Only Nyungwe House is the only five-star luxury chain Lodge with 22 luxury rooms and suites spread across five wooden villas, and it is located directly across from the Nyungwe Forest National Park. The lodge, known as Nyungwe Forest Lodge, was created in conjunction with the Rwandan government in 2010. The lodge changed its name and administration in 2017, from Nyungwe Forest Lodge to Nyugwe House, and one and only has taken over since then.
The lodge is presently closed for renovations and facility upgrades. As a result, it became the best and is now ranked first among all similar accommodations in the area.
For environment lovers and those who wish to be near to nature, this is the place to stay because it is an incredible eco-friendly lodging made of wood. It is one of the luxury resorts and hotels available in Rwanda. One and Only Lodge Nyungwe is bordered by a tea estate/plantation that provides stunning views at all times. It is uncommon to find lodging in the forest buffer zone, particularly in tropical mountainous rainforests.
It is an exception in Rwanda, where you may breathe fresh air while viewing the 13 primates located in Nyungwe National Park, which include Ruwenzori Colobus monkeys and Grey checked mangabeys. There is no other great spot to unwind and renew your mind like the one and only House. There is an exception for honeymooners.
Location:
The One & Only Nyungwe House is situated in the southwest of Rwanda, on the Gisakura main road in the Nyamasheke area. It is close the Gisakura reception, one of the three receptions of Nyungwe National Park, and is a few kilometers from the southern Lake Kivu and DRC border.
You can reach the lodge via various modes of transportation, including air transport after landing at Kigali International Airport by any airline, or a domestic flight for a short trip. Rwandair offers a daily flight from Kigali to Kamembe that takes about 35 minutes. If asked, the hotel will provide a transfer to One & Only Nyungwe House, which is 45 minutes from Kamembe Airport.
You can fly directly from Kigali to the one and only House with no other transfers if you fly with Akagera Aviation’s helicopter, which will show you why Rwanda is known as the land of a thousand hills as you enjoy the views of Lake Kivu, the Mountains of Nyungwe National Park, and tea estates from above.
You can also get to the lodge by car. If you require ground transportation to the One & Only Nyungwe House, you have two options. The first will take you from Kigali through Kamonyi district, Muhanga, Nyanza, which is the basement of the Rwandan cultural and king’s palace museum, to Butare, where the ethnographic museum is located, and then through Nyamgabe district in the high mountains and Nyugwe forest for an hour and a half to One & Only Nyungwe House.
The second alternative will take you from Kigali to Kamonyi district, then to Muhanga, and finally to Karongi, a resort town with a greater view of Lake Kivu as the route goes by the shoreline until you reach Nyamasheke area, where the lodge is located. The one and only Nyungwe House may be visited from anywhere in Rwanda because Rwanda’s roads are paved and secure, from public to private transportation, and remember that the Lodge can arrange for a private shuttle.
