Detailed Itinerary of 6-Day Northern Tanzania Safari – Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park (Lodge / Safari Lodge / Luxury Camping)
Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha or after breakfast at your hotel in Arusha, you will meet our African Vacation Safari Representative (your private guide) and start your safari with a drive to Tarangire National Park which is approximately 2 hours.
Covering an area of about 2,600 km², Tarangire National Park comprises of bush savannah, seasonal swamps and giant baobab trees making up the landscape. This park is probably one of the best places in East Africa to see elephants.
From the open roof of your 4X4 safari vehicle you will be able to watch large herds of elephants strolling through the savannah and swampy landscapes as well as the towering baobab trees. Apart from elephant, Tarangire National Park is also home to gazelles, buffaloes, lions, antelopes, Masai giraffes, baboons and more than 500 types of birds. After an extensive game drive, you will leave the park in the afternoon and drive to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Tarangire Area – Lake Manyara National Park – Karatu
After breakfast, you will head to the small but beautiful Lake Manyara National Park. A large area of the park is covered by the alkaline Lake Manyara, which is home to flocks of flamingoes and other water birds including cormorants, parrots, and crested cranes among others.
From your safari vehicle you will see giraffes, hippos, wildebeests, impalas and the rare tree climbing lion lounging in the tees and elephants feeding on the acacias in the woodlands. While the forest near the lake is filled with noisy troops of blue monkeys, extended baboon families hang around the roads. After extensive game drives, you will leave the park in the afternoon to make your way to the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro highlands. Head to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Karatu – Serengeti National Park
After breakfast you set off to the famous Serengeti National Park, driving through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and you might stop for a breathtaking view over the Ngorongoro Crater before you continue to Serengeti.
Serengeti means “endless plains” in the language of the Masai and you will see the grassland savannah stretching to the horizon. The Serengeti landscape is dotted with bizarre rock formations where predators roam. Animals you will see during the game drive including blue wildebeests, Thomson’s gazelles, zebras, and buffaloes among others. You will also enjoy the diversified habitats and landscapes of the park. Arrive in the park in the evening and overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park
The entire day is dedicated to exploring Serengeti National Park and game viewing experience. The regions of Serengeti you will visit and explore will depend upon where the migrating herds are to be found. Usually predators follow closely behind the trekking animals. During the short rainy season in November and December the herds move from the hills in the north to the plains in South. As the migration depends upon the yearly rains, the location of the herds might vary from year to year, but your guide will know where to see them best.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast you will go for another game drive in the Serengeti National Park and you might spot animals you haven’t seen during the last two days. Also, the Serengeti is home to the Big Five – lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino and leopards. After lunch at a picnic site, you will drive in direction of the Ngorongoro Crater and as soon as you have reached the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, the caldera opens up before. This approximate 20 kilometer wide crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to over 25,000 animals. You will drive to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay,

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha
Wake up early and drive down into the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s biggest caldera where you will see a diversity of wildlife ranging from black rhinos, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles, lions and leopards, to elephants and mountain reedbucks in the forests on the slopes. Also, you might see buffaloes, spotted hyenas, rare wild dogs and some of the more than 500 bird species of the Area. After an extensive game drive and picnic lunch you will leave the crater and drive back to Arusha where you will be dropped off at the airport to catch your flight back home or to your next destination.
