Budget: Eagles Nest

If you are an outdoor enthusiast, this budget lodge is a must. Its surrounding is so green, natural and beautiful. Most guests prefer to use two words to describe it, Mind Blowing!

All the rooms here are tent based and built on varied gradients. There are two options available, the standard tents with shared ablutions and the ones with private bathrooms. No matter which one you opt for, you are assured of warm showers and comfy beds.

Eagles Nest offers a good break to the long journey from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to Entebbe International Airport. It doesn’t have the best wildlife offerings, but its panoramic setting is something else. Don’t hesitate to come out of your tent and take a seat on the terrace….you will be stunned by the sight of birds flying amongst the mountains. In their background are small lakes which are interlinked by swamps. Don’t expect to see big cats in the park, but expect scenery to literally die for.

Luxury: Mihingo Lodge

Built upon a rocky outcrop with jaw dropping views across Lake Mburo National Park, Mihingo is run with only a small number of guests at any one time. As such, it is one of the few lodges in the park that offers a real home away from home. Its rooms are spacious – partly made of canvas and partly Eco-friendly materials. Its good ventilation allows in lovely breezes at day and astonishing sounds of the animals at night.

One of the things that make this lodge truly special is its attention to small details. Your coffee will be delivered in a picnic basket. From breakfast to dinner, all meals are prepared with fresh local produce and served by a team that is attentive and polite. You will learn from them a lot about Uganda.

Its poolside and terrace of the rooms are a great place to relax after a game drive. Nature around it is quite modest but this isn’t much of a problem as you can walk down to the waterhole to see zebras and other animals up close.

The lodge is famed for having a stable with horses than one can use for exploring the park—in case they want an alternative to game drives.

Here, you will also find a lovely gift shop where you can purchase authentic handmade crafts and souvenirs.

Midrange: Rwakobo Rock

All the cottages at this eco-friendly family run lodge have the ability to soothe one’s mind and set their soul free. Like its restaurant/bar, its pool is also cut into the rock. By the same token, the thatched cottages are spacious and well presented, boasting of stunning views over the countryside. Below its pool is a waterhole where the park’s mammals come to quench their thirst. It is hard not to have a wow moment, a photographer’s dream!

Rwakobo Rock

Located on a huge rock outcrop at the edge of Lake Mburo National Park, this lodge is a perfect place to lounge and behold the sunset…or the troop of baboons that hang out around it. Other usual companions include warthog and vervet monkeys around lodge.

The bike tour that they offer is professional and the guides know when to call for backup in case you find the uphill ride unbearable.

Mihingo Lodge

This is an away-from-it-all retreat with dark wood furniture and comfortable squishy sofas. Its location is perfect – 10 minutes’ drive from the starting point for game drives. The cottages here are rustic, clean, intimate and spacious. As you sit and relax by the infinity pool to enjoy views of the park, a sense of serenity will flow over you.

In the true philosophy of eco-friendly, all the rooms here have sensitive installations such as low-flush toilets and solar power. One of this lodge’s biggest wow factors is that it is operated and run by locals, an effective way of giving back to the community. The lodge is situated at a vantage point that offers truly breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. Throughout your stay, you will be treated to amazing food! You’ve got to try the local dishes. They are made with farm fresh recipes and ingredients. Giraffes usually pass by in the wee hours of the morning to the amazement of guests.
