South Luangwa National Park

is one of the top and most frequented safari game parks in Zambia. Situated within the verdant steep escarpment walls of the Luangwa valley, South Luangwa Park was initially designated as a reserve in 1904, encompassing over 3000 square kilometers of rich savanna, wooded banks along the Luangwa River, and numerous lakes and streams that meander through the park.

This rich habitat hosts large herds of elephants and buffalo, numbering in the hundreds, which are particularly stunning when encountered on foot. Impala and puku are abundant, while bushbuck, eland, and kudu are frequently observed. Three unique subspecies stand out: the stunning Thornicroft’s giraffe, characterized by its dark patterned skin, Crawshay’s zebra, and Cookson’s wildebeest. The primary predators include the lion, leopard, and spotted hyena, while wild dogs are sometimes observed.

Explore a variety of African Vacation safaris accommodations, including exceptional safari camps, charming rustic lodges, and complete bush camps, with many of them being among the finest in the country. Experience a diverse array of safari activities such as elephant back safaris, walking safaris, game drives, horseback safaris, and much more in South Luangwa National Park.

North Luangwa National Park

defines pristine African Vacation safaris within the very essence of the term. North Luangwa, celebrated for its establishing walking safari around 1980, is truly a paradise for safari enthusiasts. The Luangwa river valley offers a wealth of anticipation, serving as a vibrant habitat for wildlife that migrates between the South and North Luangwa national parks.

In addition to the varied wildlife found in expansive grassy plains, there are also Mopane woodlands and lush riverine forests that feature Acacias, Mahoganies, and Sausage Trees. The Mwaleshi River, a tributary of the Luangwa River, meanders through rocky plains, creating a series of waterfalls in the park and drawing a variety of water-loving animals during the dry season.

North Luangwa National park is renowned for its large herds of buffalo, prides of lions often seen hunting, as well as hyenas, bushbucks, wildebeests, zebras, warthogs, baboons, vervet monkeys, leopards, hartebeests, eland, puku, and impala. Elephants are often seen migrating from the south park.

The options for accommodation in this game park are limited due to the poor condition of the road network. This game park is excellent for walking safaris and birding adventures in Zambia.

Kafue National Park

Kafue National Park is likely the largest game reserve in Zambia, encompassing the region surrounding the banks of the Kafue River, which includes the Busanga swamps, marshes, and the small streams that flow into the river.

The vast grasslands are home to thousands of red lechwe. The antelopes found in this area include the blue wildebeest, impala, hartebeest, roan, tsessebe, reedbuck, oribi, sitatunga, puku, and duiker. Common sights include the buffalo, baboon, vervet monkeys, zebra, bushpig, and warthog. During the May rains, numerous hippos find themselves stuck in the shallow pools until the waters subside in the dry season.

Kafue Park boasts numerous Zambia safari lodges that provide excellent accommodation and a variety of tourist adventures, including fishing, boating, game walks, guided bird walks, and tours to Itezhi Tezhi dam, all included in the safari holiday package offered.

The park is divided in the center by the Lusaka-Mongu Road, and in several respects, we can view the northern part of Kafue National Park as distinctly different from the southern side. Although the northern side boasts well-maintained tracks and paths, the southern side has been overlooked, despite the ongoing arrival and establishment of safari lodges in this area of the park.

Lower Zambezi National Park

is located in the vast rift of the Zambezi valley along the banks of the Zambezi River. The landscape is stunning: towering leadwoods, ebonies, acacias, and figs rise above a lush carpet of grassland flourishing on the fertile volcanic soils.

The optimal period for observing wildlife  with African Vacation Safaris in this area occurs during the dry season when numerous animals gather at the riverbanks in search of water sources. Among the sights are elephants, buffalo, hippos, waterbuck, kudu, zebras, crocodiles, impalas, warthogs, roan, eland, vervet monkeys, and baboons. Nocturnal animals include hyenas, porcupines, civets, genets, and honey badgers, which are also quite common. Game viewing is excellent from April to September.

Lower Zambezi Park, along with the neighboring Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe, offers excellent opportunities for bird watching. The area is home to several recorded bird species, including the eagle, kingfisher, heron, stork, and bee-eater.

A variety of excellent African Vacation safari camps and several safari lodges can be found in the Lower Zambezi National Park.

Additional Zambia Destinations comprise Liuwa National Park, Mosi oa Tunya National Park situated near Victoria Falls, Nyika Plateau Park, Sumbu National Park, and Lochinvar National Park, along with several smaller parks and reserves. Each of these national parks in Zambia provides distinct tourist accommodations through various safari camps and lodges.
